Join us for a lively discussion about press freedom, freedom of expression, media law, computer crimes actsand challenges confronting professional media in Southeast Asia and Uganda.

In December 2012, a group of journalists and representatives from the Southeast Asia Press Alliance and FCCT, went on a media exchange tour in Uganda, where they met with colleagues faced by political challenges to press freedom.

Hosted by the Human Rights Network for Journalists, the group toured community radio stations, met the editor of a newspaper closed by the Ugandan government and parliamentarians fighting for greater press freedom.

Delegates from the media tour will join us in Bangkok to share updated information about the current political climate for media, covering issues ranging from conflict,to elections, to political reform in their countries.
The panelists will compare common challenges hindering a free press and legal environments that enable the "Third Force" to do its job in countries besieged by ongoing social and political unrest.

A slide show of photos taken during the tour will be projectedduring the panel, speakers include:

Myo Min Htike, Editor of Venus News, Burma,
Srey Sopheak, Radio France International, Cambodia, formerly of The Committee for Free and Free Elections, (CAMFREL)
